Upon securing the use permit from Berkeley’s Zoning Adjustments Board in 1986, Kashani hired the necessary subcontractors and workers to build the new unit and upgrade the house. Kashani worked in the field with all trades while managing the project.
Completed 1986
1621 Ashby Avenue, Berkeley, California
Shortly after graduating with a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from UC Berkeley in 1984, Mr. Kashani teamed up with a Berkeley-based developer, Mr. Richard C. Stancliff, and purchased a house for $1 that needed to be moved off-site. Together they purchased a vacant lot at 1621 Ashby Avenue, Berkeley, and moved the single-family house from Albany to the site. Mr. Kashani prepared his first use permit application for a duplex at the purchased site.
